Financial aid for young parents in France
In France, young parents benefit from one of the most generous family support systems in Europe. This aid is managed by the Caisse d'Allocations Familiales (CAF). Here is a comprehensive overview of the aid you are entitled to in 2026.
1. The Birth Grant (PAJE)
The Prestation d'Accueil du Jeune Enfant (PAJE) includes a birth grant paid subject to means testing:
- Amount: approximately €1,064 (2026 amount, revalued)
- Paid in the 7th month of pregnancy
- Subject to means testing
- Application to be made on caf.fr
2. The Basic Allowance (PAJE)
After the birth, you can receive the basic allowance:
- Full amount: approximately €194/month (2026)
- Partial amount: approximately €97/month (depending on income)
- Paid until the child is 3 years old
3. The Complementary Childcare Allowance (CMG)

4. Maternity and Paternity Leave
- Maternity leave: 16 weeks for the 1st child (6 before + 10 after)
