Protecting Baby from the Sun: Cream, Hat, and Sunglasses — Complete Guide
Share
Why is sun protection crucial for babies?
Babies' skin is extremely thin and sensitive to UV rays. According to Health Canada, sunburns during childhood significantly increase the risk of skin cancer in adulthood.
Golden rule: no direct sun before 6 months
The Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS) recommends avoiding all direct sun exposure for babies under 6 months old. Before this age, protection should only come from shade, light covering clothes, and a wide-brimmed hat.
Sunscreen: when and how?
After 6 months, apply a baby-specific mineral sunscreen with SPF 50+ (zinc oxide) 30 minutes before exposure, and reapply every 2 hours.
The hat: essential!
Choose a hat with wide brims (minimum 7 cm) and UPF 50+ rating. Discover our Baby Hats & Beanies collection specially selected for protection and style.
Sunglasses: yes, even for babies!
Babies' eyes are even more sensitive to UV rays. Choose glasses with UV400 protection and flexible frames. Find our selection of UV400 Baby Sunglasses.
